We Take Breast Health Seriously
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers. About 12 percent of women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetimes. It is the second-leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer.
Death rates have been declining since about 1990, which the American Cancer Society attributes to earlier detection through screening, increased awareness and improved treatment.
KDMC Ohio is committed to providing women with the knowledge, tools and expertise necessary to raise awareness and prevention, early detection and successful treatment of breast cancer.
We provide women with educational programs to raise awareness of breast cancer and ways to reduce risk and detect breast cancer early. All of our mammography units are fully digital and are performed by specially trained and certified mammography techs.
We do not require a physician order for a screening mammogram, which allows women to receive this potentially life-saving test when it is convenient for them, without the added step of a visit to the doctor's office. Mammograms are read and interpreted by King's Daughters highly qualified radiologists and results are reported within 24 hours.
Our mammography service has been recognized by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.
The Mobile Mammography Unit visits KDMC Ohio twice a month, providing access to digital mammography. All testing is performed by specially trained and certified mammography technologists. Our radiologists use the R2 ImageChecker®, a special computer program that acts like a “spellchecker” for medical images to help flag suspicious areas on a mammogram.
Through a partnership with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization, we are able to provide free or reduced cost mammograms to eligible women residing in Ohio and Kentucky. For more information about this program, please call our Community Relations department at (606) 408-9295.
If you're a woman over the age of 40, schedule your annual mammogram today by calling toll-free 1-877-304-1935.
